Rubber flooring has long been used in industrial settings and is now starting to make inroads into residential settings. This type of flooring is easy to maintain and resists impacts well. There are various types of rubber floor tiles. This article will discuss some of these different types.

Interlocking

One of the first types of rubber floor tiles is the interlocking variety. Each tile is fitted with grooves that lock together. This type of flooring is very easy to install and remove. It also doesn't require the use of adhesive or tape.

However, interlocking rubber floor tiles aren't without their problems. The seams are very noticeable. Also, moisture can get down into the seams and lead to problems over time.

Loose-lay

There are also loose-lay rubber floor tiles. This type is also very easy to install and remove like the interlocking variety. However, loose-lay tiles require the use of double-sided tape for installation. You will also need to ensure that the substrate is smooth and clean.

Glue-Down

One of the next types of rubber floor tiles is the glue-down type. Like its name suggests, you will need to use a strong adhesive to install them. They have the advantage of being the most durable type since they can withstand heavy traffic. They also won't move around like the other types.

Textures

Rubber floor tiles can also have different textures. Some are smooth and offer less traction. There are also tiles that have round-shaped studs on the top. They offer plenty of traction and can endure heavy foot traffic. Other rubber tiles have a diamond pattern to offer additional traction.

These are some of the different types of rubber floor tiles. Loose-lay and interlocking are the easiest to install and remove. However, glue-down tiles are the most durable. There are also tiles with various textures to offer different levels of traction.
