It's been almost four years since Grand Theft Auto IV was released. Rumors of a fifth installment of the popular Rockstar franchise have been floating around for a while. On November 2, gamers finally got a look at the first trailer. While there was no information about a release date yet, here are some things we know about GTA V.
It's set in San Andreas/ Los Santos
Mt. Chilead is visible, as are screenshots of the countryside. Hopefully, this means gamers will be able to explore beyond the city limits. It looks like base jumping off the mountain will be back. Besides the mountain, there are shots of palm trees, the beach, a run down neighborhood, skyscrapers, and what looks like crop dusting at a farm. Rockstar is calling the location Los Santos, their version of Los Angeles. Towards the end of the trailer, the Vinewood sign is shown. There is a golf course with a very steal-able golf cart, just off to the side of the screen. Also, shots of jets, a jet-ski, and helicopters were featured.
He wants to clean up his life
While rumors have mentioned GTA V using multiple main characters, this trailer only focused on one. The still nameless character narrates the trailer, claiming that he "moved here for the weather." He also mentions wanting to be a "good guy for once," get married, and raise a family. This character seems older then other GTA protagonists. Perhaps he is an aged Tommy from Vice City. Also, it looks like the man running from the cops could be CJ and the homeless man holding the sign could be Niko. This would make sense if the multiple main characters rumor is true. After the narration, scenes of car chases, a group of men running out of an extermination van with guns, and hookers walking up to a car are shown.
It's set in the present day
Speculation has had GTA V set everywhere from the past to a space-aged future. By looking at the trailer, it's clear the game will be set in the present day. In fact, it hints at a financial crisis. There's a shot of someone putting a sale sign on a house. Right after that, the homeless man holding a sign asking for money and what appears to be a tent city is seen. The V in the GTA V logo appears to be made out of money, which fits in with the game focusing on the recession.
While the little over one minute trailer didn't reveal everything, it looks like GTA V will be an epic game with amazing graphics. The story sounds like classic GTA., and it would be interesting for the game to feature our real life financial woes. Now all we need is a release date!
