A Look at Glenn Beck's "An Inconvenient Book"

Conservative TV talk show host Glenn Beck tackles a bunch of issues that bother him, from global warming, radical Muslims, and the minimum wage to body image, media bias, and political correctness in this entertaining, thought-provoking book. All are issues that trouble the average American with Beck's own take and suggested solutions.

Agree with his views or not, he raises some good points which only emphasize the obvious: the other guy isn't always a self-indulgent monster, he just has a different take on what it takes to get by. In my case, I tend to agree with Beck on a lot of stuff, although unconvinced on others.

Personally, I believe that people are blindly following familiar pathways, especially in regard to issues of national security. People were outraged at the 9/11 attacks, but except for supporting our troops overseas (at least there's that), they seem to disregard any of the other issues. My opinion is that people are looking for simple answers and there aren't Any. There never were. Things were always more complicated than they appeared. Did the loss of Vietnam after years of war prove the Domino Theory was wrong? Oddly enough, I don't think it really did.

For a modern example, did you realize that the continuing struggle between the Muslims and Jews has nothing to do with Israel? Muslims just hate Jews. Period. We are always taking the rap for backing Israel, but this predates the modern state of Israel by hundreds of years.

When the Prophet Mohammad gathered his army after consolidating his seat of power in Saudi Arabia, he first struck out against the Jews of the area. The Jews remained and remain a target of Muslims to this day. Beck himself aired excerpts from Iranian TV on his show (he was on CNN Headlines, now he's on Fox News) where kids are being filmed parroting hate speech about Jews, where soap opera actors have lines about Jews eating babies, and garbage like that. These guys aren't even trying!

By the way, for the record, the Koran, in its proper form, is printed in Arabic, thus requiring, for many non-Arabic-reading communities, a cleric to read and interpret what it says, which has led to much of the current strife involving radical clerics.
