A Look into Jewelry and the Precious Stone: Turquoise

Turquoise is a beautiful blue gem much used in many of the jewelry today. It was one of the first gems to be mined, and is still continuously gaining its popularity. Turquoise is definitely a great gem to choose to add to your jewelry collection, and if you don't have one or two turquoise jewelry in your wardrobe, boy, are you missing out! Turquoise is a stone known for protection, and happiness, and when given to friends a sign of loyalty, and responsibility. Their bright, cheerful color has been known to help the depressed cheer up. There are a lot of wonderful meanings associated with turquoise, and although they're ancient gems, they are always finding a way back into fashion, and being timeless jewelry pieces adored by generation after generation.

Unlike some other stones, high quality turquoise is timeless as it climbs back into fashion generation after generation. You may find your grandparents had a turquoise piece of jewelry, and even today, it may look as a wonderful piece for any outfit. High quality turquoise can be worn generation after generation; thus, it is important to take good care of turquoise jewelry. Turquoise is quite a fragile piece of jewelry, and it definitely takes a lot of hard work in caring for. They are very sensitive to different chemicals like perfumes, cosmetics, some jewelry cleaning fluids, and even skin oil; thus, it is important to store turquoise in a good surrounding away from any chemicals, and to clean it in warm, sudsy water, and then, dry it immediately later with a warm cloth. Also, it is important to handle turquoise with care. They only have a maximum hardness of 6 which is about as hard as window glass. Keeping that in mind, it is important not to store turquoise with harder gemstones or other jewelry that might rub against it, and cause some flaws or damage.

Turquoise has been adorned and loved by many rulers in history from the rulers of Ancient Egypt to the ancient China dynasty emperors; however, it has not been favorable and as popular until the 14th century. The Egyptians incorporated this beautiful gem into the tombs of their pharaohs by setting it in gold. The Aztecs laid turquoise with other expensive metals and jewels to make masks. Throughout history, there has been much evidence of the different uses of turquoise incorporated in many different cultures all around the world.

Nowadays, many pieces of turquoise jewelry are also available to us by many designers, and in fact, there are many different pieces out there nowadays as turquoise is once again storming back into the markets, and into fashion. Even some of the cheaper turquoise jewelry can look wonderful for different occasions. If you don't have a turquoise piece yet, you should definitely consider looking into one as this piece of jewelry has an everlasting, striking beauty which will stun generations to come.
