A Look at the Katy Perry OPI Nail Polish Collection for Winter 2011

The OPI Color Names Are Based on Songs from Katy Perry's Album

Katy Perry, the perky pop star, has been tearin' up the Top 40 charts the last few years and is about to tear up the fashion and beauty world with her own line of OPI nail polish. In October 2010, OPI announced that Katy Perry would have her own collection of nail polish. In the fun tradition of OPI's style, the colors will have funky names and fun colors. The collection will be available in stores in Winter 2011.

Teenage Dream: Based on the hit song from 2010 of the same name, the "Teenage Dream" color is a light pink glitter shimmer. Personally, I don't care for it, as it is too similar to other OPI colors that I already own. I'll probably be passing on this one.

Last Friday Night: Again, the color of the polish is based on a Katy Perry song off of her new album. It's a true, medium blue, much like the color of a blue crayon. Additionally, it has lots and lots of glitter, so it's quite an interesting shade. I can't think of any other OPI polish that looks like this one, so I'm probably going to have to pick it up. Plus, I'm a sucker for blue nail polish.

Not Like the Movies: This is a true silver color that looks a bit darker than any of the other silvers that OPI has put out. The problem with silver nail polishes is that it goes on too lightly and takes many coats to get the color looking right. Because "Not Like the Movies" looks darker than the other silver colors, it might not take as many coats to get the silver looking like a silver, rather than a shimmery white.

The One That Got Away: This is a dark magenta color. I think it's too similar to other OPI colors, so again, I'll be passing on it.

Black Shatter: This is by far my favorite color, as it is so different than any of the other colors or topcoats that OPI has previously come out with. This polish is black, but after you apply it and it dries, it "shatters" into a leopard print or crackled background. For example, if you paint your nails with "Teenage Dream" and apply "Black Shatter" after it dries, you'll get a pink and black animal print on your nails. It's very cool and I can see this color selling out fast.

Where can I buy the Katy Perry OPI nail polish collection?

You can purchase the Katy Perry OPI nail polish collection at any authorized OPI retailer (so think beauty salons, spas, and specialty cosmetic stores such as Ulta). You cannot buy this collection at Sephora, as Sephora only carries the "OPI for Sephora" line of nail colors. Each color retails for $9 each. You can also purchase this collection at select online retailers who carry OPI products - you can even find it on Amazon.
