The newest and latest release by Apple is called the Ipod Touch. It is essentially an iPhone without the phone. Yet this newest addition still has Wi-Fi capability and even comes with a web browser. Here are the latest specs on the latest new addition from Apple.

The front of the Ipod Touch looks like the iPhone. It is three and half inches with navigation like the iPhone, making it great to share photos. You get Calculator, Calendar, Clock, Contacts, and Settings. But the Ipod Touch also has a small surprise. Controls are on the back of the Ipod Touch. You can use your finger on the back to activate a cursor on the front screen of the device, revealing why Apple called this one the Ipod "Touch". To select something using the back touch surface this way, you just hover your cursor over a button or whatever and press a little harder on the back. Cool. It saves valuable space on the front for a larger screen.

The Ipod Touch is the first ipod to have a wireless connection. Apple chose to use the Safari browser. Steve Jobs said the browser was added because many places "throw up a web page" when you want to connect to their Wi-fi system. He called it the best browser on any mobile platform. With web capabilities, the Ipod Touch can cruise even You Tube and its videos.

How about the battery life ? It boasts twenty two hours of audio and five hours of video playback time. The capacity for the device is in two flavors : eight gigabyte and sixteen gigabyte ( 8 GB and 16 GB ). Prices are around $300 and $400, in their respective order. Its the first ipod shipped outside the USA by Apple.

How does it work ? You have what is called Wi-fi music store, connected to ( Where else ? ) iTunes. You can preview songs and buy the ones you like right from your screen using a buy now button. You download the song, and the next time you connect your Ipod Touch to your computer at home, it is synced to iTunes. This iTune Wi-Fi music store is available internationally. The iPhone will also have this feature later. One other special feature is the connection your Ipod Touch gets when it is near a Starbucks. A new button will pop up on your screen when in Wi-Fi range of a Starbucks store. You will be able to know what songs are playing at the Starbucks, and have the option to buy it. If you want you can also view the last ten songs that Starbucks store played. Steve Jobs says they are planning a good lineup of songs for Ipod Touch users.

All in all the Ipod Touch is a jewel of a music player, even more advanced than usual. The timing for this release is just right, with plenty of time to save up for Christmas for that special person who is the music lover in your life. For now, it does not get better than the Ipod Touch.
