At point guard there is Jason Kidd, the heart and soul of this Nets team. He is currently averaging a triple double in the play-offs at 34 years of age. He is the leader of this team the team is in every game with him at the point. He has defied age this season by posting one of his best seasons ever, but how long can this go on? As long as humanly possible Nets fans hope, but realistically he only has a few years left in the tank. He is signed for 2 years for 20 million. Marcus Williams has shown promise at times but it remains to be seen whether he is the point guard of the future or not.
At shooting guard there is Vince Carter who may or may not be with the team next season. Carter can opt out of his contract this off-season and it should be interesting to see whether the Nets re-sign him or if they opt to let him go and sign a big man instead. Antoine Wright has shown strides this season, however it is unclear whether or not he would be able to step up and fill the void left by Carter, if Carter decides to pack his bags. Eddie House is a straight sharp shooter of the bench and will hopefully be back next season. Hassan Adams showed promise but remains a project.
At small forward there is Richard Jefferson, who is one of the better small forwards in the league. He is coming off an ankle injury, but has played well in the play-offs so far. Bostjan Nachbar has been a huge contributor though out the season and the play-offs and may just be the Nets top threat off the bench.
At power forward we may see a new face next year or Nenad Krstic could be playing alongside a new center. Krstic is coming off a bad knee injury and it remains to be seen how that will affect his play. Krstic has shown a lot of promise through out his young career. Clifford Robinson will most likely retire and Josh Boone has shown sparks but is still a very young and raw player.
The center position has been filled by Jason Collins for quite some time and to be honest he needs to be on the bench. He doesn't score or rebound and only is used for his defense. A lot of times it's like the Nets are playing four on five. Mikki Moore has shown promise, but lacks the bulk to be a starting center in this league. It is essential to the Nets championship hopes that they sign a center or power forward immediately before the Jason Kidd era ends.
Lawerence Frank has done a good job coaching this group and became the head coach with the most wins in Nets history. He should be back with the Nets next season and has not missed the play-offs in his four years with the team.
The Nets are a team with a lot of talent, and one major need going into the off-season, if they play their cards right, they could be a contender next season. They already are a contender nearly every season without an adequate big man, but adding one would surely push them into the elite class.
