A Look at the Raw Brand with Potential Main Eventers

Bruce Bostwick
In the beginning, there was Monday Night Raw, which began in 1993. It was on for one hour and some stars would still be there from the beginning and never left including two future WWE Hall of Famers The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels. It was the 'A' show then and it still is today. Prior to Raw's existence there was a show called Prime Time Wrestling and also Saturday Night's Main Event was a big thing. The PPV scene was not as crowded as it is today. The times have changed and the people who once were the headline attractions are mostly retired or somewhere else.

Now today it seems that the Main Event scene is very hard to break in considering there are at least 10 potential Main Event talents in the WWE today. From the reigning champion John Cena to new faces to Raw with Bobby Lashley and Mr. Kennedy. There are injuries to stars like HHH, HBK, and most recently Lashley on the Main Event, only one for sure is due to return quickly and that is HHH.

John Cena-Since 2005, Cena has been a consistent Main Eventer for the WWE. Some have liked him and some haven't. His reign as champion as a whole outside of two title losses has gone over 1 year, something that hasn't been done with the WWE Title in quite some time. In comparison, he has been in some ways the modern day version of Hulk Hogan in the Main Event. He is going into Summerslam against Randy Orton and it looks to be that he won't be leaving the Main Event scene anytime soon so he's one of the staples within WWE.

Bobby Lashley-Right now he is currently injured but since the move to Raw, he has been involved in the WWE Title picture. Coming off the ECW Title run, it was logical that he would be put in that position to challenge for the WWE Title. After being defeated by John Cena, he was to be in a major feud with Carlito. He had shoulder problems and was intensified in a match with Mr. Kennedy just last week on Raw. When he returns, it is expected he will go back and go after the WWE Title and could make history with holding that title.

HHH-He has been with the company since 1995 and has been to every Wrestlemania from 1996 up to 2006. He has had two torn quad injuries and if another one was to happen, it would be best to consider retiring. He is due to return pretty quick and is due to face off with King Booker, a feud that happened 4 years ago but both Booker and HHH have switched positions as far as who's the face and who's the heel. Despite the fact that he is Vince's son-in-law, he has had a very good career and probably will go down as a future WWE Hall of Famer. Most likely after this feud, he will probably get involved with the WWE Title and go for his 11th World Title overall and his 6th WWE Title reign.

HBK-He has been with them since the 1st Raw and is currently out nursing a knee injury that needed to heal up. It is unknown when he will get back to the ring but the guess would be somewhere in the fall or the winter of the end of the year. Whether or not it happens is another story. His last title came earlier in the year holding the World Tag Team Titles with John Cena but that's about it. It is not expected he will become WWE Champion again as he probably will move to a more part-time position on performance. There is really nothing else he could possibly do that could top the career he's had. From winning the Royal Rumble to being the 1st Grand Slam Champion, he's done it all and there would be nothing left to accomplish. He is also going to be a future WWE Hall of Famer.

King Booker-He did everything on Smackdown and has returned to Raw. On Raw, he did hold the World Tag Team Titles and also the Intercontinental title as well. The only belt he has yet to hold is the WWE Title. He probably will not get that and will put in between Main Event and mid-card given how much room there is. It's probably going to be the end and plus he's running his own promotion so he might be retiring pretty soon.

Mr. Kennedy-At this point and time, he is being put in between and being built slowly after getting off to a rough start on Raw. He is a former United States Champion. The way it is looking now Mr. Kennedy might just move up soon to the WWE Title picture but it might take one major feud to get it going and it's most likely going to be against HHH. That would be the logical guess before moving on to a WWE Title feud. If he stays healthy, he will become a World Champion in his career but it will happen if he's healthy.

Randy Orton-Whether by default or just simply getting a slap on the wrist, he's been put in this position. How he went from the hotel trashing to now a WWE Title shot is just strange. You'd think that wouldn't happen but its like saying he's the best they can do. Orton has actually kept himself from getting out of control and it will be needed if he wants to get himself to stay in this position. Then again, he's misbehaved and yet still continues to get pushed to the top no matter what he does.In short, this brand has a Main Event scene that looks cluttered at this moment. It seems that each brand has there own thing going on for the most part. The ECW Brand was discussed and considered the development league brand. Smackdown right now is just riddled with injuries and it seems to be hitting the people who hold the World Heavyweight Title. Raw is just being shown as the #1 brand considering the fact that it has a more stacked Main Event than any of the other brands. That concludes that the brand analysis and coming up soon, a look back at a project started by the WWE, the XFL.
