You may also be thinking about buying property abroad in Bahrain to live in however that is not a viable option. As a foreign worker or expatriate you will only be able to rent instead of purchase a place to live. The property and land ownership laws that are in Bahrain state that expatriates or foreigners are not allowed to own land or property in Bahrain. Due to this law you will only be able to rent a place to live in while you are living abroad in Bahrain.
Since Bahrain is a gulf state a lot of expats are shocked to learn that homes are not in the middle of the desert. Instead it is just the opposite. You will see apartments and villas for rent in urban or suburban areas of Bahrain. Most apartments and villas that you will come across in Bahrain are actually new developments. Due to the recent surge in foreign workers traveling to Bahrain to live and work the construction industry has started many projects to insure that all of the foreign workers that are coming to the country will have places to stay since property ownership is not allowed. In fact, you will want to inquire as to if there is any construction taking place in or near the place you wish to rent. Oftentimes in Bahrain construction projects are 24 hour projects, meaning that while you are trying to sleep someone will be outside building something; usually loudly.
An easy way to make sure you are not getting a place with round the clock construction is to use a good relocation agent. There are numerous relocation agencies in Bahrain and some of them even have offices abroad in major cities like London and New York. Not only will you be able to get helpful and practical assistance in locating a nice place to rent, but you will also get cultural assistance from your relocation agent. This is because a lot of expats arrive in Bahrain only to experience what can best be described as culture shock. With the help of a relocation agent you will be able to ease into the culture a bit more smoothly.
When you do find a place to rent it will likely be in a compound or an apartment. In Bahrain the foreign workers tend to live in the same area in compounds or apartments. They are removed from the Arab population.
