Rule 1- Offensive Language
Players are not to use any language that may be considered offensive, racist or obscene. That includes cuss words. Mis-spelling an offensive word or using symbols to avoid the chat filter is also not allowed. There is an in-game Report Abuse button at the bottom of the game window for players to use to report a player who breaks this rule.
Rule 2- Item Scamming
A player must not scan or deceive another player. Lying to other players for your own is against the rules of conduct. This rule is in place to protect new players. It is also to prevent players for spoiling the game for other players.
It is considered a scam to claim an item is rare when it is not, to switch items at the last second before pressing accept and by misleading another player by providing false information.
Rule 3 - Password Scamming
Password scamming is asking or trying to persuade another player to give you their password for any reason. The breaking of this rule will be treated very seriously. Even if you are not successful in your attempts you are still in violation of this rule.
Rule 4- Cheating/Bug Abuse
A player must not use or attempt to use any errors or cheats that they find in the RuneScape software. Any exploits a player finds must be immediately reported to Jagex through Customer Support. This is against the rules because taking advantage of a bug can unbalance the game economy or devalue other players' achievements.
The purpose of the game is for all gains to be fairly and through honest game play. So even the use of cheats is in violation or this rule.
Rule 5 - Jagex Staff Impersonation
This one pretty much speaks for itself as to why it is wrong. But I will still explain this one. Members of Jagex staff will have a gold crown next to their name. This rule is in place so that players can identify members of Jagex staff. This ensures that players can trust members of the Jagex staff for help and support.
The players with silver crowns next to their name are just Player Moderators.
Rule 6- Account Sharing/Trading
A player is not allowed to sell, transfer or lend his or her account to anyone else. Nor are they allowed to permit anyone else from using their account or accepting an account offered by someone else to them.
This rule is in place to prevent people from selling stolen account. Also to protect your account from someone borrowing it and breaking the rules and thus causing your account to be banned.
Rule 7- Using Third Party Software
The use of software to gain and unfair advantage is not allowed. This includes any software that attempts to communicate directly with the RuneScape game worlds and but not limited to software that generates input to the RuneScape client.
Rule 8 - Multiple Logging-In
Players are allowed to create more than one RuneScape account. Only one account is to be logged into at a time. Also these multiple accounts cannot interact with each other in any way. This includes drop trading or any method of item transfer.
This rule is in place to prevent players from feeling they need multiple accounts at once to compete.
Also you may not give items to another player from one account so that the other player will trade it back to one of your additional accounts.
Rule 9 - Encouraging Others to Break Rules
Encouraging others to break the rules is in violation of RuneScapes Rules of Conduct.
Some of the ways to encourage someone to break the rules are:
Trying to convince someone that the RuneScape rules are different than they really are.
Trying to get a reaction from someone by using offensive language on him or her.
Distributing third party add-ons that break rule 7.
Encouraging other to abuse bugs.
There are many more but basically it is anything that makes someone more likely to break the rules of RuneScape.
Rule 10 - False Representations
A player is not to misuse RuneScape's Customer Support. It is a violation of the rules to threat or report and innocent person, supply false information and to abuse Jagex staff.
By breaking this rule players flood customer support making it hard for them to help players who genuinely need assistance.
Rule 11 - Advertising/Website
The advertising in the RuneScape game or RuneScape forums is not allowed. There is to be no advertising of any website, product and no web addresses are allowed. This includes giving out links to your clan/fan sites. This rule is in place to protect players from inappropriate content and from sites that download virus when you access the site.
While this rule may be unfair to some players, it is there to protect all players from any kind of abuse.
Rule 12- Real World Item Trading
The exchange of RuneScape items for items in other online games, real-life money or other real-life benefits is against the RuneScape Rules of Conduct. Items in RuneScape are to only be exchanged within the game.
There are multiple reasons for this rule. First RuneScape is not to be a game where you can buy your way to success. Secondly these transactions cannot be monitored outside the game to ensure fairness. Thirdly when players attempt to break this rule and sell items for real cash the item are actually stolen.
Rule 13 - Asking for Personal Details
For players' safety and privacy, a player is not allowed to ask for personal information on another player. Personal information includes full name, home address or telephone number. These also include email address and instant messenger screen names.
Rule 14 - Misuse of Official Forums
A player is not to misuse RuneScape's official forums. The forums code of conduct is linked at the top of the forums and clearly states exactly what is and what is not acceptable behavior. This rule is in place so that everyone can take part in a fun and friendly atmosphere within the forums.
Rule 15 - Advert Blocking
A player is not allowed to deliberately block or hide the adverts that appear above the free version of the RuneScape game. The adverts above the free game are what allow them to continue to offer the game for free.
For adverts that you find offensive there is a question mark icon at the bottom right of the advert. Clicking this will pop up a window with instructions on how to report that advert.
I wrote this cause I know that most people don't want to take the time to read through everything on a site. For gaming sites most people want to jump in and start having fun. So I decided to give everyone a quick run down of RuneScape's Rules of Conduct. By understanding these rules and following them, everyone can have a safe and fun gaming experience.
