A Look at Short Term Visa Requirements for Argentina

If you plan on going abroad to South America to live in Argentina for a short period you will most likely need to get a short term visa for your self and your dependents to make your stay in the country a legal one. There are different types of short term visas for short stays in Argentina and depending on the length of time you will be in the country and the purpose of your visit you may not even need a visa at all to come to Argentina to live for a short period of time.

Student visas are a common type of short term visas that are available in Argentina. Typically a short term student visa is issued to students that will not be participating in a long term program of study. Usually students that need a short term student visa are coming to Argentina as part of a foreign exchange program or a study abroad program with a college or university that they are attending in their home country. A short term student visa can be applied for by either the student or the university where the student will be studying.

Tourism and business visas make up another popular category of short term visas. The short term tourism and business visas are for stays in the country lasting no longer than 90 days. Citizens of certain countries can come to Argentina for purposes of tourism or business without even needing a visa. Those countries are: Andorra, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Granada, Greece, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Norway, New Zealand, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Santa Lucia, Serbia & Montenegro, Singapore, St. Vincent & Grenadines, Slovenia, Slovakia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Trinidad & Tobago, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay, Vatican, and Venezuela. A citizen of a country not listed will need a short term tourist visa to come to Argentina.

When issued, tourist visas are valid for a period of 3 months. Short term tourist visas can be renewed an additional three months before expiration. Short term tourist and business visa applications must be accompanied with a passport that is valid for at least 6 months, passport size photos, a return airline reservation, and proof of sufficient financial resources.

If you are coming to Argentina for artistic, cultural, religious, professional or technical activities then you will need a short term artistic visa. This short term is only valid for a period of 15 days, but it can be renewed for an additional 15 days if needed. Citizens of the United Kingdom and Brazil are exempt from needing this visa. And Icelandic, Belgium and Dutch citizens are exempt if they will not be getting paid for their activities. The requirements for this short term visa are the same as for the tourist and business short term visa with the additional needed documentation of a letter from the organization sending you to Argentina on their behalf.
