A Look at the Top 5 Players in the NFL Based on Interceptions

Bo Thornton
In the NFL, winning the turnover battle is often the key element in determining a win or loss. Interceptions are very important for every team in the NFL. If you have players that force interceptions consistently, you will have a chance to win every game. Let's talk about the top 5 players in the NFL based on interceptions.

Jairus Byrd

Jairus Byrd is only a rookie, but he has taken the NFL by storm. He is currently tied for the league lead in interceptions with 8. He is having the kind of impact few rookies ever have. If he were to sustain these numbers over an entire career, he will be a hall of fame candidate. He has a great chance to lead the league in interceptions this season.

Darren Sharper

Darren Sharper has been in the NFL nearly 13 seasons. He has 62 interceptions over that time period. This season, he has 8 interceptions to his credit. That is tied for the lead in the NFL. Judging by his career so far, it looks like he has an excellent shot at finishing the season with the most interceptions. He needs to remain injury-free, but if that happens, he has an excellent chance at the top spot.

Asante Samuel

Asante Samuel is one of the top defensive players in the NFL. He has consistently made the plays to set him apart from other players. In his nearly seven year career, he has 33 interceptions. So far this season, he has 7 interceptions, which is third in the NFL. This race is very close. I think Asante Samuel has an excellent chance to finish the season with the most interceptions.

Charles Woodson

Charles Woodson has been a solid player in the NFL for more than a decade. He has made 43 interceptions in his career, which is a decent total. This season, he has 7 interceptions, which is tied for third in the league. He has done well up to this point, but I do not think he will finish with the most interceptions. The other guys on this list are either better, or have fresher legs than Charles Woodson.

Leigh Bodden

//www.nfl.comLeigh Bodden is an average NFL player. It is a surprise that he is in this discussion. He currently sits in fifth place in the league in interceptions. He has 5 interceptions so far this season. I do not believe he will finish the season with the most interceptions. There are far better players on this list.
