A Look at the Top 5 Wide Receivers in the NFL Based on Receiving Yards

Bo Thornton
The NFL is filled with amazing receivers. Some of these guys can make even the toughest reception look routine. There are five receivers who are doing better than all the others this year. Let's take a look at their statistics.

Randy Moss

Randy Moss is the NFL leader in receiving yards so far this season. That should come as no surprise to anyone who follows NFL football. He is one of the most dynamic football players to ever play the sport. Words can't describe how truly great he has been his entire career. He should make the hall of fame in his first attempt. In 11 and 3/4 NFL seasons, he has caught passes for a total of 14,259 yards. This season, he has caught passes for a total of 1,058 yards. He also has 9 touchdowns. He has a great chance to lead the NFL in receiving yards this season.

Wes Welker

Wes Welker is a steady, sure-handed receiver. In fact, he has one of the best sets of hands in the NFL. He is the possession receiver teams count on when it's 3rd and 8 and they must get a 1st down. Most of the time, he will get the first down. So far this season, he has caught passes for 1,053 yards. He has also caught 4 touchdowns. He has an excellent shot at leading the NFL in receiving yards this season.

Andre Johnson

Andre Johnson is the prototype NFL receiver. He is blessed with exceptional size, great speed, sure hands, and superb leaping ability. It should come as no surprise that he is third in the NFL in receiving yards. In fact, it is a surprise he is not higher. So far this season, he has caught passes for a total of 1,044 yards. He has also caught 6 touchdowns. I don't believe he will lead the NFL in receiving yards this season, but he is one to watch for the future.

Sidney Rice

This is a complete surprise. In his previous two seasons, Sidney Rice had less than 550 yards combined. So far this season, he has caught passes for 1,036 yards. He has also caught 4 touchdowns. His receiving yards this season are already almost double that of his previous two seasons. I'm not sure if he can become an elite receiver or if he is just a one year wonder. Time will tell. One thing is for certain, he has had a career year already this season.

Reggie Wayne

//www.nfl.comReggie Wayne is an amazing receiver. He has been one of the best receivers in the NFL for almost a decade. The thing that separates him from many of the other receivers in the NFL is his route running ability. He is always open because he runs his routes very precisely. When his quarterback throws the ball, he can count on Reggie Wayne to be exactly where he should be. That is an invaluable skill when the game is on the line. So far this season, he has caught passes for 1,035 yards. He has also caught 9 touchdowns. The receiving yards race is very close. Based on his past seasons, I believe he does have a chance to lead the NFL in receiving yards.
