A Look at The Washington Redskins

The Washington Redskins started as a franchise as the Boston Braves based in Boston. In 1932 they would join what became the National Football League. The Braves first season would end in a .500 record. The next year the Redskins would move their home games to Fenway Park and officially named their franchise the Redskins. Their two seasons in the new stadium would also end with a .500 record. After a couple seasons the Redskins attendance fell and their record would follow. They would move to Washington due to low attendance and debt.

In Washington the Redskins would play at the Washington Senators baseball field. Their first season here the Redskins won the NFL championship against the Chicago Bears 28-21. After 2 more close seasons at the title, the Redskins would meet with the Chicago Bears again in the 1940 championship. The score of this match was 72-0, but lost the next year when they met yet again. After this run the Redskins entered a long drought in witch they only had three winning season in almost twenty years. Washington was given a warning from the United States government witch had investigated the Redskins for discrimination. They would be forced to sign a black athlete, so they did.sportsecyclopedia says In 1962 they would draft Ernie Davis who was the first African-American to win the Heisman trophy. Before Davis could even play a single down in the NFL he would lose his life to leukemia.

In 1969 the stadium that they would come to play for would be renamed Robert F. Kennedy Memorial said by thehogs.net. The Redskins had high hopes for the upcoming season especially with the new coach Vince Lombardi. He would lead Washington their best season in years but tragically died from cancer shortly after. In 1972 they would fight all the way to the Super Bowl, defeating their rivals the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC championship game. In this Super Bowl XVII the Redskins would lose to the Undefeated Miami Dolphins 27-17.

Their first Super Bowl would come in Super Bowl XVIII when they defeated the Oakland Raiders in a blow out of 38-9. In 1987 the Players of Washington went on a 24-day strike that resulted in the Redskins hiring Fill-in or Replacement players, from Jt-Sw. They surprised most of the world when they won witch resulted in the Redskins barley reaching the playoffs and then winning their second Super Bowl.

In 1997 FedEx field was opened witch was the largest stadium in the League. Recently the Redskins put Quarterback Jason Campbell as their starter. Sean Taylor who was tragically shot and killed in Miami was suppose to be their star. The next year the League remembered him with his jersey number on everyone's helmet.
