A Look at the Woodford Folk Festival

Australia is not typically known for a wide variety of festivals, but one annual tradition that has survived for over 20 years now: the Woodford Folk Festival. Originally known as the Maleny Folk Festival in 1987, the celebration was moved to the town of Woodford in 1994 and changed its name, as well. Located some 70 km North of Brisbane, the Woodford Folk Festival is more than just your average rock concert. Instead, this is a celebration of culture, arts, and music from all around the globe that lasts for six days and nights. Taking place annually from December 27 to January 1, many visitors will set up a tent and camp right on site to take advantage of everything the festival has to offer. For those with a tighter schedule, however, daily passes are available for the event, as well.

The Woodford Folk Festival's most recent event, which took place from December 27, 2007 to January 1, 2008, saw such musical acts as The Cat Empire, Jackson Jackson, Archie Roach, James Morrison, and many more. In 2006 / 2007 the Woodford Folk Festival welcomed acts such as Xavier Rudd, The Beautiful Girls, The John Butler Trio, and That 1 Guy, amongst others. 2005 / 2006, which saw the festival's largest attendance to date at over 130,000 people, featured bands The Cat Empire, Tribalicious, Kafka, Pete Murray, and a variety of other diverse and highly talented music groups.

While the live music is definitely one of the Woodford Folk Festival's main attractions, it's not the only form of art that is celebrated here. There are plenty of drum and dance classes, lessons, and entertainment, a circus complete with classical sideshows, and dozens of special guest speakers. There are street-style performances by jugglers, clowns, and magicians, some of which may contain some unexpected and unscheduled surprises. Additionally, there are a variety of different workshops available for those who would like to learn a little something during their visit to the Woodford Folk Festival, too. Add on top of all this beautiful, one-of-a-kind sculptures, statues, and art installations and you have a great experience on the Southeast coast of Queensland, that is fun for the entire family.

Speaking of the entire family, the Woodford Folk Festival really does have something for every single member of your family, regardless of age, tastes, likes, or dislikes. The celebration even hosts a separate children's festival which entertains the younger crowd with their very own musical and dance performances, puppet theatre, cooking, and more. With such a variety of different activities going on every single day at the Woodford Folk Festival, you and your family is guaranteed to find suitable entertainment on any day and at any time.

If you are planning a vacation to Queensland, Australia through the week of December 27 to January 1, you may want to seriously consider spending some time at the Woodford Folk Festival in Brisbane. It is one of the largest celebrations in all of Australia, and it is a fantastic time for everybody involved.
