A Lover's Lament

Lisa R. Strong
Evening shadows fall;
Pillar candles dance with light;
Burns a lonely heart;

Fragrant scents arise;
To Heaven with hopeful prayers;
Love will soon arrive;

TV is turned on;
A black and white love story;
Bogey and Bacall;

Tissue box nearby;
So moved, I will be in tears;
As I watch them kiss;

I close my sad eyes;
I let out a heavy sigh;
Wishing it was me;

Popcorn in my lap;
A half-full goblet of wine;
I just smile and dream;

Will his heart be mine?
I guess only time will tell;
I must wait for now.
