A Machine Made of Words

James R. Ford
Brick by brick, stone by stone
the wall is built for us alone
thick and thicker, side by side
the darkness keeps the light outside
stick and stickier, piece by piece
remaining inside, unreleased

the arrows rest with weapons on the floor
coins and guns for the dogs of war

for peace at last there comes a cost
more men are killed more lives are lost

stone by stone, brick by brick
the wall's too high and much too thick
side by side, we stand alone
the people live without a home
until at last the time has come
when man will live together as one
