A Malleable Personality

A person who is kind and has a nice personality and disposition in life is said to be "a person with a heart of gold". Gold is an element belonging to the metallic group. If this is the case, why would gold be associated with a person showing extreme kindness? This essay will give an overview as to why a kind person is said to have a heart of gold.

Gold belongs to the metallic group of elements and is considered as one of the more precious of these elements. Gold is a soft, yellow, metallic element that is resistant from corrosion. It is the element that is being used as an international monetary standard. Nation's economies are rated on how much gold reserves they have. Gold is also considered as the most malleable and ductile metal.

A person who is extremely kind is said to have a heart of gold because he has a malleable personality. Since, malleability is defined as the ability of metals to be hammered into thin sheets without destroying the properties of the metals, a person who is malleable is somebody who can take on emotional abuses without having his/her heart change in disposition. A person that has a malleable personality is hard to find and are considered precious in a society. Also, a malleable person is also a person who can easily change his personality to fit in to the changing times.

However, having a malleable personality or "heart of gold" may have its advantages and disadvantages. The advantage of a person having a malleable personality is that this person will have a good disposition no matter what hardships or emotional abuses he/she has been exposed to. A person with a malleable personality sees the goodness in each person that he/she meets and does not make instant judgments based on first impressions. This is because a person with a malleable personality does not hold any grudges from the past and does not anticipate that he/she will be hurt by somebody that he/she would meet in the future. A malleable personality also makes a person easily adaptable to different situations because his/her personality can easily be shaped and molded. Because of this, a malleable personality makes a person a precious friend or member of a group or society.

Having a malleable personality or a "heart of gold" may have its disadvantages. People tend to abuse kindness and may abuse somebody with a malleable personality. A person who has a "heart of gold" is known to "give and give until it bleeds" since a person with a malleable personality would care more for others than he/she would for him/herself. Because of this, people who depend on a person with a malleable personality so much might become too lazy to work for themselves. Persons who have a malleable personality may also be regarded as somebody with no fixed personality and disposition in life since they tend to just follow the personality trends of the group that they belong to.

In my own life, my personality being malleable has made me emotionally strong since I can take on emotional abuses without having my heart become corrupted by them. Having a malleable personality also made me become welcome in the current group of friends and peers that I have since I was able to adjust my personality to the norms of the group.
