Don't expect to get a good deal if you book a couple of night during a peak time. Peak times would include things like fourth of July weekend, Labor Day weekend, Memorial Day weekend, etc. Hotel rates, gas prices and most other travel expenses will be more expensive during those times.

At most travel plazas and rest areas, you can find coupon books for money off on travel expenses. You can often find a book one night, get one free for a hotel or a percentage off as well as coupons for money off for meals and more. Check the area newspaper as well. If a hotel or resort is doing a promotion of some sort, they will likely advertise with that paper.
Internet Promotions And Coupons
You can save a lot money this way. Go Google the name of hotel that you want to book a couple of nights at. First, go to the hotel's website and look for any promotions that they are having. Then, Google the name of the hotel again along with the words "coupon codes" or "coupons". You may find some codes that enable you to save money when booking online.
If you live in an area where gambling is legal, this is a good thing. Now you don't have to gamble to stay at the casino. If you can avoid the temptation of the slot machines, you can save a lot of money. Most casinos give out free nights like candy. The fact is, most casinos do not make the bulk of their money from the hotel rooms. They make it from the gambling floor. They will give a free night or two often just to get you walking by the slot machines. They count on you being tempted and spending money gambling. You can often find good deals on romantic and classy dinners, rooms and tons of freebees at casinos.

The best kept secret in the travel industry is that the Disney parks on both coasts are all but abandoned the third Thursday of every November. While most Americans are at home with their families, the parks and their support infrastructure are mostly free to serve a fraction of their regular guest capacity and hotel rates are generally reduced accordingly.
