A Masquerade of Dancing Fools

Lisa Stanley

Music moaned amid the night

I woke, found myself inside

A masquerade of dancing fools

From which I could not hide

My vision was hazy and fading grey

And I could not see

All of the skeletons pieced back together

Coming after me

They smiled at me, offered, "Good Death!"

But I could not stand

The smell of flesh dead for years

Or the touch of their hands

Laughter echoed deep within

My troubled, helpless mind

I turned to run away from death

And started losing time

Just as I thought that I was free

From the Dancing Fools Parade

I heard my name called above the laughter

And felt the slicing blade

Stinging and mutilating my flesh defense

I screamed in agonizing pain

Slicing my skin over and over

My blood began to drain

Music moaned the same old tune

As I fell, took my last breath

And I became another victim

Of the Dancing Fools Death
