A Media Pro Looks at the HP 1TB Personal Media Drive

Never Run Out of Drive Space Again

Back in the day, I had a hard drive that held everything. Then, files got bigger and I started using my computer to edit video files. Media files like video and audio can take up quite a bit of room, even if they're compressed. Eventually I got a DVD burner, and was able to back up some of the files there, but even that got to be a bit cumbersome.

I needed a solution to be able to hang on to my large media files, without having to break them up. After doing some research on storage solutions, I settled on the HP 1TB Personal Media Drive

I got the HP 1TB Personal Media Drive at Amazon.com for $139.00, and waited for it to arrive. When I got it, I found the package contained the drive, a 6 foot USB cable, Roxio Backup My PC (installed on the Drive) and power connecters. These are for using the HP 1TB Personal Media Drive with PCs that do not have a bay to instill the Personal Media Drive.
I have a HP Media Center Computer that has a personal media slot, and the HP 1TB Personal Media Drive slides perfectly into the slot, and looks like it is part of the computer.

The HP 1TB Personal Media Drive lights up with a blue LED when it is plugged in, and when Read/write operations are ongoing. It is also extremely quiet. I appreciate a drive that does not sound like it is coming in for a landing.
I was impressed with the speed of the HP 1TB Personal Media Drive. I have tried using it with my other computers that do not have a PMD slot, and it is just as fast with them. To use the HP 1TB Personal Media Drive as an external backup drive, you just need to plug in power, and connect the drive to the computer through a USB port.

The HP 1TB Personal Media Drive uses USB 2.0, which is pretty fast. I need to have a second copy of all my most important media files, so that I can show prospective clients what I can do.

I load them onto the HP 1TB Personal Media Drive, and take it out of the slot, and can take the drive along with my laptop, and away I go. I like the portability of the HP 1TB Personal Media Drive, and have found this to be one of the best additions to my HP Media Center PC.
