A Memorable Travel Meal in Thousand Oaks California

Rachel Heller
I love visiting my cousins in Thousand Oaks any time during the year. I have so much fun wiith them because they are very nice and creative. In the summer, I usually travel to Thousand Oaks to see a Dodger baseball game with my cousins and I usually will go see them either during Thanksgiving or Christmas. My cousin Julie is a goood cook because in addition to making usual cuisine such as turkey, hamburgers, and eggs, she also makes fried matzo, pancakes with flax seeds, and spaghetti with turkey meatballs. I love food both when I am home and when I am traveling and I have had many fantatic meals when eating out of town. I have eaten delicious deep dish pizza in Chicago and I have had a great German meal in Minnesota. The German cuisine that I ate in Minnesota consisted of Hungarian Goulash, noodles, pickled cabbage, and a huge slice of chocolate and cherry cake. However, I will never forget a meal of spaghetti and turkey meatballs, salad, and garlic bread that I ate with my cousins Julie and Ken because this meal took place on a Thanksgiving weekend that didn't include my mom plus I don't usually get to spend quality time with just Julie and Ken.

I had gone up to Thousand Oaks alone because my mom was with my brother in Minnesota. Wednesday, Julie and I baked two pumpkin pies, and two English pies, Thursday was Thanksgiving so I spent the day with Julie, Ken, Kelly, Lauren, and John. But, on Friday, Julie and I went shopping and we shopped until we dropped. If shopping were an Olympic sport, Julie would win the gold medal and i would take the slilver medal. When we came home, Julie made spaghetti with turkey meatballs, salad, and garlic bread. This meal was memorable because I love Italian food and I have never eaten spaghetti with turkey meatballs so I was excited to eat a new Italian dish. In addition, by eating spaghetti with turkey meatballs with my cousins in Thousand Oak, i have another creative recipe to use with leftover Thanksgiving turkey. This was also a memorable meal because it reinforced the true meaning of Thanksgiving weekend, which is being thankful for what you have. I am very thankful that I have family that care about me being alone for Thanksgiving.

Traveling and food seeem to go together because you must eat when you are out of town. However, it is easier to eat out of town when you eat cuisine that you enjoy and it is cooked by someone you love. Italian cuisine made with love equals a memorable travel meal in Thousand Oaks California with family.
