Some parents vigorously object to what might be described as the devil's aspects of Halloween tradition and lore. By and large, they disallow their children from having anything to do with the pre-All Saints Day activities.

Some parents have mild misgivings and are especially concerned with the impact on their preschool and early elementary offspring. For them, Royal Oak Public Library is providing activities that may address their concerns.

"Halloween at the Library," on Saturday, Oct. 30 from noon to 2 p.m., is advertised to feature "merry, not scary, Halloween games crafts and activities for families with children of all ages."

Tradition is not totally discounted. Kids, and parents too, are invited to attend in costume.

The free program is limited to 125 children. Parents may register their offspring at ropl.org or by calling (248) 246-3725.

'Merry, not Scary'...I like that! Although, I must admit that I do let my kids dress in scary costumes if they wish.
