Part of it read…
God is the only one you can ever rely on - he will never let you down or fail you like people will.
I know your Dad is watching from above - make him proud.
And so I held the card tight and allowed the passage of tears; thankful for the words of encouragement, so few but so powerful - the sender never knowing how I carefully tucked the card away, memorizing the message within and changing my life so that I could live up to those words.
I was 18 then; lost, seemingly forgotten and alone, but not really…someone remembered me and it was a simple act of compassion that mitigated the sting of separation and gave me hope; hope, a comforting light beacon in the darkness of despair because of one woman's thoughtful words, which made me cling to God with greater abandon than I had ever done so before.
Few of us will ever recognize how any kind words we've spoken or a charitable action we've taken might have assisted another - the positive ripple effect reverberating and changing lives for the better.
The soul crushing sorrow I felt was replaced with faith - the sadness still there but lessened and it didn't take a speech or a village, it took just one person and a few genuine words - the positive consequences echoing through the years from one person to another because of one small act of kindness…

Post a CommentThanks. I needed this today!
Thanks you so very much for sharing this! It's lovely, and I feel very blessed reading this.
Very thought provoking. Thanks.
It is amazing the effect words have on people. Take you job for instance. Would you not work harder for your boss if he came down every once in a while with a few kind words than if he spent those words describing the things you did wrong? Maybe it is just me but when my boss says "Keep up the good work" it makes a difference in the effort I put into my work. Maybe it shouldn't, but the type of environment that you work in, to me, does have an effect on the performance of the workers. Good Article!!!
"cling to God with greater abandon" that's an interesting phrase. Great combination of words. It sounds almost nonsensical on the surface, but when you think about it, we do have to abandon ourself to truly cling to God. You set a great mood with just a few words, Donna. Thanks for the thoughts you inspired today.
Very nice story. We are all so busy that it's easy to forget to take the time to be kind. It only takes a few minutes, but it can make all the difference in the world. Thanks for the reminder.
Thank you Donna for this heart-warming story. You are truly a beacon of hope in your own way... and on behalf of all the souls you touch, thank you! :)
That's a beautiful story, Donna. Thanks for sharing it.
