A Marriage Mystery

A Mystery: Marriage Made in Heaven

A time before time was ... and before there was a single human family on earth, a wonderful love affair began. Like most fascinating love-stories, this one also involves a love triangle, a type of trinity. To make matters complex and more beautiful, this tale includes a need for a bride price for an arranged marriage contracted by the families involved.

Prince Issa, also known as JC, was an only child, but he had a brilliantly majestic imagination, plus angels for friends and helpers. His father was the best. The father had made everything around Issa work like clockwork, including the angels. Besides Issa was the most beautiful boy anyone would ever see. And Issa's father loved him to death.
The father knew, in his mind's eye, how Issa would become a magical bridegroom and the most ardent of lovers and husbands. Once Issa were to be told of his would-be bride, Issa would pursue his bride until she would never want to be separated from him, ever.

The love of Issa for his father was also unparalleled. Issa would do anything his father asked or even hinted that he wished for or wanted to happen. Out of this great love affair would come the seed of the lucky bride, perfect marriage and of the future progeny of this unique couple.

The father had a sense of humor. He chose a bride for Issa when Issa was as yet unready for marriage and its responsibilities. But he knew - as only fathers who have agape love know - that Issa would never leave or stop loving the bride the father chosen for Issa. You see, this father was rather old-fashioned, perhaps even someone we'd call a fundamentalist.

...The father's eyes wandered off to a nearby kingdom, very special, very rich and lovely but sorely in need of order and agape love. It was called Edin. There the father was able to spy the bride for his son, Issa. Through a combination of humor, power, diplomacy and pure love, the father discovered Iglesia, a bride that Issa's father considered perfect for his son. She was extremely attractive to the father, and he knew Issa would accept her. The arrangements were made and Issa and Iglesia became betrothed. The father rejoiced as he saw into the future the numberless heirs of this family, almost as numberless as the stars, the number of descendants that had been promised to Abraham.

But in order to make the marriage more meaningful and to indulge himself, the father did not want the future marriage to be cost-free. There would be a bride price! The old-fashioned father wanted o demonstrate that there is no free lunch, that nothing wonderful can be gotten for free. Old-fashioned fathers acted that way before time began ... He therefore discussed with Issa the bride price that Issa was required to pay for Iglesia in marriage. Issa did not hesitate; he agreed to pay the price that his father had decided upon in his arrangements.

In fact, Issa accepted the news of marriage and the bride price with joy, albeit with a serious dose of caring responsibility. He began to prepare for his big day almost immediately.

To cut a long story short, Issa paid the extraordinary bride price, one never to be equaled before or since. He had long ago promised the father that whoever the father allowed him to marry and have, he, Issa, would never allow any from among their family to die in vain. He promised to make his children part of their glorious line. The father was understandably proud and overjoyed. He could trust his son to take care of every single one of his responsibilities, just as a good shepherd never let a single sheep go astray. Even before the wedding, the father wrote in his will that Issa was a co-equal and contemporary ruler of his household and future kingdoms.

Between you and me, let it be known that Issa traveled to a far and dangerous land to accumulate that exorbitant bride price. But he paid it to the father and soon declared: "It is finished." The father could guess...without having need to have gone with Issa to this dangerous land, that Issa had walked the Path of Sorrows and paid with flesh, blood and tears to raise the bride price. I am so unworthy to have heard this divine story, and to have been given a part in it, for I have no qualifications for telling this unique of tales. But such is the magic and power of this wonderful First Family ... we are all drawn in by this triangular love of Father, Son and Iglesia. And yes, they have numberless heirs whom you and I will know intimately. Thank God I will have that privilege because of the Election that was held in the Kingdom of Issa and his father. Without my knowing it, or being a citizen, I was nominated and elected into the family. Pray that you will be chosen too. Glory to such a Father, Son and Love Triangle.
