A MILITARY SALUTE

ladyliw
We wave our flags and yell "hurray"
We celebrate Memorial Day
We bar-b- que and play and sweat
But I truly feel we do forget

We forget the pain, the struggle and strife
These people endured to protect our lives
The blood they shed, the tears they cried
The times they thought for sure they'd died

Bombs going off, some lose their limbs
Saying goodbye to Bobby and Jim
Waking up scared in holes in the ground
Nowhere to run, can't turn around

Fighting on shores so far from home
Some gone for the first time, now on their own
They cannot show fear and do not seek fame
They do what they must 'cause it's a part of the game

These brave men and women
Fought, bled and died
So we could display
Our symbol of pride

Memorial Day - a day off indeed
It's more than the weekend - it's about "being free"
Freedom they give us the freedom we cherish
The freedom they give us each time they perish

Some went to fight when they answered their call
Some volunteered - but all gave their all
Struggling and fighting, rising through the ranks
To each of these warriors, I give you 'MY THANKS'

Thank you Army, Navy, Coast Guard, the rest
Thank you all for giving your best
You paid a debt I cannot repay
To you we owe Thanks this - and every Memorial Day!
