A Moment in Time

James R. Ford
Billy was struggling through the pressure. Day after day, work for little pay. The trudgery, the aches and pains of heavy lifting. Still, he went on.

William, as known to his mom, was a special child. Her only son in a sea of daughters. Five to be exact. And when William Sr. died, Bill had to quit school, get a job, and support his family.

It was now thirty years later, and with three children of his own, Billy was forced to work at low paying, entry level jobs due to the poor economy and the outsourcing of prime American jobs to developing Asian countries.

Life, it seemed, was sometimes unfair. Why do the privileged get to drive in oversized SUVs while his own car was over twenty years old and in need of repair? Why do the chosen get to watch satellite television on their oversized, digital flat screen TVs, while Bill has to make through with rabbbit ear antennas, while the signal fades in and out? Where is his 401(k)? Where is his place in the sun? The land of his forefathers had betrayed him. The land of milk and honey had become lactose intolerant and bitter.

Billy paused on the street. The light of a new morning had arrived and the fantastic colors on the horizon encouraged him with self reflection. He spoke with his Creator. Thanking Him for the new morning. Asking for forgiveness of his sins. Bill thanked Him for all of the blessings that surrounded him. The good health of his children. The love of his family and the blessings that surrounded them all. He asked for peace. And it was granted to him.
Bill went to work with a new purpose. A new direction. And the peace that transcends all.
