A Mom's Proudest Moment

A Mom Has so Many Proud Moments

Karen Dunleavy
My eldest son graduated from high school in 2004. Not only is he my eldest son , but my eldest child. I think I am not alone in the sentiment and this would be one of those defining proud moments you would call to memory with sweetness. It is a big milestone for the child, the parent or parents, as the case may be, and the family.

I have even more reasons to be proud-and if not me my husband. In his family no one graduates from High School. He didn't, his siblings didn't and out of a dozen or so grandchildren only my son-at the time- and one other grandson held this honor.

Another reason I am proud is that I home schooled this son through eighth grade before putting him in public high school at ninth grade. Home school is fun and rewarding, but not easy. It was with great satisfaction, I was able to sigh with relief that my son had all the necessary skills to not only get through high school but make the Honor Society graduating second in his class as far as grades go for Males. He also received the Drafting reward and one of the top Drivers' awards for Driver's Education at that school.

It was the utmost honor hearing his name called to receive his diploma. I cried when the slide show of pictures from each graduate rolled by on the screen as I thought how quickly the time had come and gone. All too soon his picture also slid by as his life had, but I rejoiced in what God had done for us and will do in the future with him as I put the flower in water-which he had given me after accepting his diploma.

One proud moment in many as his mom and the mom of my four other children.
