A Mother's Day Gift that Kids Can Make

A Year Full of Love for Mom

Tracy DeLuca
Kids need to be able to show appreciation for their mothers on Mother's Day. Breakfast in bed, flowers and jewelry are all great ideas for gifts, but what about something the kids can make themselves? And how about a gift that gives all year long? Here is an idea for a wonderful gift that any mother will cherish. Whether you are making this for your own mother or helping your children make a gift for their mom, this will be a hit.

A Jar Full of Love

Items Needed

A glass or plastic jar or container with a lid

construction paper

pens and markers

glue or tape

Instructions

Make sure that your jar or container is clean and dry. If there are labels, make sure they are removed or covered by the new label. Using construction paper, make a new label to put on your jar. The label should read "A Jar Full of Love: 365 Reasons We Love You". Once the label is ready, glue or tape it to the jar.

This next step is the one that may take some time and young children may need help coming up with ideas. Come up with 365 reasons why you love your mom. Some of them can be repeats if you run out of ideas. Think of things like:

I love you because you always smell nice.

I love you because you make me cupcakes in the middle of the night.

I love you because you give big hugs even when I am bad.

I love you because you let me go to the mall.

I love you because you made me special pancakes for my birthday.

I love you because you are beautiful.

I love you because you are my mom.

I love you because you are soft and cuddly.

I love you because you read to me at night.

It does not matter what the reasons are, as long as the children mean them. Mom will love reading them no matter what they say! You can either handwrite each reason on a slip of construction paper, or you can type them up, print them out and cut the slips apart.

Fold each slip of paper in half and place them in the jar. If you have a large jar and have lots of room left, you can add some chocolate kisses and mix them in with the papers. When you give the jar to Mom, tell her that she can draw a slip of paper each day and read it so that she is reminded that her children love her.
