A Mother's Day to Remember

Kelly Herdrich
"It's beautiful," I said to my sister as she presented me with the gift. Though I'd given birth just three days before, she wasted no time in taking the picture of my two daughters and having it blown up and framed as a Mother's Day gift. Two daughters...I had two daughters.

We'd just returned home, and my oldest daughter, 19 months, was playing on the floor in the living room. My newborn daughter dozed in the Pack-n-Play next to me. My husband was up and at 'em--taking care of things around the house, running interference with visitors, family and friends, and keeping an eye on me and the girls, too.

To be honest, it wasn't until I left the hospital the day before Mother's Day and arrived home with a new baby that it hit me--I was actually going to have two children at home with me now. I was the mother of two. I was terrified.

As I looked at the gift from my sister and watched my growing family play and interact with one another at ease, I realized that this truly was the best Mother's Day I would ever have. I was blessed with a new baby, a loving and doting husband, and a beautiful toddler. I couldn't have asked for a better Mother's Day gift.
