I was really surprised when my husband said we should spend my first Mother's day at the Philadelphia zoo. It was a beautiful day outside - sunny and warm and it seemed like the perfect place to go.
Off we went to the zoo - we loaded the baby up in her stroller with all of her gear, slathered her in sunscreen and went to the zoo. When we entered the zoo, they were giving away bouquets of flowers to all of the moms, so that was a really nice touch.
We spent out day walking around in the sunshine looking at all of the animals. One of my most special memories is how excited my daughter got when she saw a "Mommy" gorilla playing with a baby gorilla right up against the glass. She reached her hands out and squealed as she touched the glass. It was really special to those animals so close and to see that my daughter who was so young was really delighted by it.
My first Mother's day at the zoo was the most perfect day. Our daughter was entertained by the animals, my husband and I got to enjoy some great conversations with each other and we got to spend a day in the sunshine. I'll never forget my first Mother's day and my daughter's first trip to the zoo!
