A Mover's Checklist to Work Closely with Your Mover

You Have to Superivse These Guys

Jeff Schuman
If you have ever moved in the past I would be willing to bet you have never used a checklist to work with your mover. Why not? We use list for everything else in our lives, yet on one of the most important days we just start packing and loading without much of a plan.

Movers are very independent and need to be superivised. Remember they work for you. Here is a moving checklist to help your next move with the mover who is going to be handling all of your worldly possessions.

First of all let's talk about what to do before moving day. You need to find the right mover. If you do not have a moving company in mind you will want to get 3 estimates much like you would a home improvement. Be sure and ask for referrals and check out their record with the Better Business Bureau. Hiring a quality mover is not hard to do, but you do need to find one you want in the price range you are willing to pay.

Be sure and lock them into when they will show up to start loading your stuff. Many movers seem to be free spirited and kind of show up when they want. You may even want to ask that very question to the referrals they provide you with.

Make a checklist of everything that is to be moved. All furniture, clothes, washer, dryer, everything you want to keep track of.

On the big day be sure you are at your house to oversee the move. Go over with them what is to be loaded and in what order. make sure you have done your part and all packing is complete and the boxes are ready to go. Moving day is chaotic and the best thing you can do is be involved, yet out of the way. They are professionals and will know how they want to move your stuff.

A the house you are moving to make sure it is ready as well. If you bought a home that is occupied make sure they are moved out before you movers show up to move in. When you movers show up this is where you can offer the most assistance. Make sure everything is unloaded where you want it to be. If you are unsure about how to organize your furniture try and at least get it in the room where it goes.

Use your checklist to verify everything that is to be moved makes it to your home. I personally lost tools and other valuables in a move and never realized it until it was to late. Finally inspect everything before you pay your bill. If you are satisfied pay the bill, hook up the t.v. and order pizza. You can start putting everything away tomorrow.
