A Movie Review: an American Werewolf in London

An 80's Classic Horror Film

Jessica Ann
If you're looking for a scary movie to rent, then I would certainly recommend renting the 1981 John Landis film "An American Werewolf in London." Starring David Naughton and Griffin Dunne as two Americans on a walking tour of London when they wander off the path, though warned not to, to an unexpected horror that keeps you on the edge of your seat. There is really nothing creepier than dark, foggy woods and these two young men try to lighten the mood throughout the film with endearing, yet biting (no pun intended) humor.

"An American Werewolf in London" offers spook factors and just enough gore which should keep the hardcore horror buff interested until the very end of the film. As one friend continues to wander the earth in limbo, the other must decide whether or not to face the inevitable demise his buddy keeps warning him about. The problem first off is for him to decide whether or not he's going crazy. The friend that keeps warning him is dead and is quite vile to look at and he can't stop having these horrendous nightmares which are awful in and of themselves.

As for the ladies, don't worry, there is some romance here for you too in the way of a pretty English nurse who feels sorry for the young man who tries to convince the authorities that they are not looking for some serial killer, but something much worse. She welcomes him into her home and her heart, but love doesn't always conquer all.

The movie works it's way well to a fantastic ending which just may even bring a tear to your eye. The special effects were incredible for the time and makes this a must see for all horror fans. The film won an Academy Award for Best Makeup. There's one sequence, in the form of a nightmare, that still gives me nightmares if I think about it too much. Trust me, this is one film for a good scare.

You can find this movie at several retailers, including Amazon.com, cduniverse.com, inetvideo.com (you may get it for as low as $3.99) or take a trip to BestBuy. If you don't want to purchase the film right now, you can rent it at netflix.com

I love scarey movies and I love a good werewolf movie. I also loved "American Werewolf in Paris," even though it was quite silly at times. Excellent choice!

I'm not into scarey movies. This is enough of a good review to let me know to stay far away from this one. If you do like them, I'd say "Go for it!"
