A Movie Review of Wanted

Wesley Gibson lives a very boring and predictable life as an accountant, waking up everyday to hear his girlfriend bitch about their dingy apartment near the railway station and his boss who keeps bullying him about his slow work. All this changes when he meets Fox(Angelina Jolie) in a supermarket where she tells him that his estranged father was killed the previous day and that he should avenge his fathers death. He's recruited into THE FRATERNITY, which is a 1000 year old association which lives by predefined code. She takes him to a textile mill where he meets the other members of the group and the head of the operation, Sloan(Morgan Freeman).Wesley is told that he has a special medical condition that will make him a great assassin like his father. Under the guidance of Sloan, Wesley is trained by the others in the group and he develops lightning quick reflexes and learns how and when to use various weapons like knives and guns. Does Wesley get back at his fathers killers?? Why is Wesley, a person with no particular experience in the world of assassinations, chosen to kill the killers?? The climax of the movies reveals the answers.

With his childish, boy-next-door face James MaAvoy seems to have been an obvious choice for the lead role and he does justice to the characters. Though Angelina Jolie has little to say during the movie, she hardly leaves the screen. The lack of dialogues for her role is compensated by her presence on screen and she pulls off the character incredibly well. Her foxy attitude and cunning eyes add mystery to her character which I am sure no other actor could have done! Morgan Freeman is at ease performing the role of the head of the ruthless assassin group.

The movie gives the viewers an insight into the world of assassins. It takes us to the training ground of THE FRATERNITY and shows us clearly how the new recruits are prepared for their 'line of work'. It also shows us how the professional assassins operate without leaving a trace of evidence of what they've done ! The part of the movie which tells us how to decode the message given in the fabric leaves many spellbound.

But I felt that the movie should have shown a bit more about the history of THE FRATERNITY and not just have mentioned about it's origin. Moreover, it could have shown how the other assassins are recruited and trained. There are some parts of the movie which one may find a bit hard to digest. No matter how trained the professionals, I just don't think that they can make bullets curve around their targets! But the movie has made a good attempt at trying to make the viewers believe that through proper training it is possible to do so.

Though the action is good, the dialogues are a real let down. It's obvious that the producers decided to let the bullets do the talking in the movie, but quite frankly, they're not talking loud enough for my liking.

MY RATING- 7/10

1)This is the director's first American movie.
2)This movie is originally a comic book by Top Cow Productions written by Mark Millar.
