A Must In-Season Fantasy Baseball Strategy for Victory

Statsman
This strategy is for Head-to-Head players and is not nearly as potent today as it was a few years ago, as more and more players have caught on. But it still must be followed if you expect to win in Head-to-Head leagues. (Head-to-Head leagues will probably surpass Roto leagues this year in popularity.)

You must use two-start pitchers as often as possible each week. If you do not use two-start pitchers each week, unless you have an incredible pitching staff, you are conceding fantasy points to your competitors.

Over the course of the year, if your starting one more pitcher each week than your competitors, at the end of the year you'll have 26 more starts logged. The average pitcher will give you about 15 points per start, so your looking at an extra 390 points. If you start two more pitchers than your competitors, your looking at 780 more points.

Obviously, if you have Johan Santana you are going to start him every week. But what about somebody like Freddy Garcia? Are you better off starting him each week, even if he is only pitching once, or starting a lesser pitcher who is getting two starts over the weekly scoring period?

A lot depends on who the two-start pitcher is, and what the match ups are, but generally you will be better off with the two-start pitcher because he gives you a better overall chance of getting more fantasy points each week. If Freddy Garcia makes one start for you in a week, pitches OK but does not win the game, he might give you 12 points. The lesser pitcher, even if he is not great, is still likely to give you more points than that over two starts.

By using two-start pitchers each week, you are giving yourself the best chance to rack up fantasy points each week. If the site where you play fantasy baseball allows you, check and see the teams which racked up the most fantasy points in your league last year for pitching, and I will guarantee you it is the teams which had the most fantasy starts (unless one team just had an incredible staff).

In Head-to-Head fantasy baseball leagues, you must utilize two-start pitchers as often as possible to win.
