A Natural Remedy to Ease an Upset Stomach - Ginger

Gwendolyn Taylor
Do you have frequent upset stomach or nausea? Do you ever feel gassy to the point that it hurts? Most people like do not want to keep on turning to over the counter medicines to cure an upset stomach because, well, those are simply not natural or good for you in the long run. Luckily, I discovered an all natural. Herbal remedy that soothes and get rids of upset stomach and the feelings that accompany it - ginger.

Now most people would think that ginger is too harsh to consume alone and could actually aggravate the stomach. However, the best way to take ginger is in tea form. Not only is this way simple and more convenient, but it is also safer to consume and can be very effective. I usually purchase ginger tea that has some added honey or can sugar mixed in. This reduces the zesty attributes of ginger and can be much more pleasant to drink. I have noticed that plain ginger tea can be found at most popular grocery stores (so you will need to add your own pinch of honey or can sugar) and honey ginger tea can be found in abundance in Asian markets. Ginger tea is not expensive and usually costs lower or the same as other popular teas.

Chinese, Japanese, and Indian cultures have been incorporating ginger in their medicine since the 1500s. Ginger itself has been known to contain digestive, antiflatulent, and antacid compounds. It is primarily known to reduce the effects of nausea and motion sickness. It can also ease cramping during menstrual periods.

Although ginger is an all natural, herbal remedy to over the counter medicine, like everything else, it should be taken in moderation. Some side effects include irritation or bad taste in the mouth, heartburn, blockage in the intestines, or abnormal heart rhythms. However, most of these only and rarely occur when taking ginger in freshly cut chunk form or powder form. That is why I recommend consuming it in liquid (tea) form. Pregnant women are also advised to refrain from consuming high levels of ginger chunks for it could increase discharge from the uterus and can possible lead to abortion.

I drink honey ginger tea on an almost daily basis and I thoroughly enjoy it. I have recommended it to others who have felt nauseous or have an upset stomach and we all have experienced its benefits over and over again.
