A Natural Remedy to Help Prevent Toddler Yeast Infections

Nothing breaks your heart more than when your little one has a yeast infection. They are uncomfortable, and red. You should always have your child examined at your pediatrician's office if you suspect anything is wrong. It is important to change diapers frequently, use gentle cleansing and baths. Sometimes however, you can do something extra that may prevent the infection.

When you have a yeast infection what is the first thing you reach for? For me it is yogurt with live cultures, eating it regularly helps to fix the uncomfortable situation. But getting a toddler to eat yogurt is not always so easy... Or is it? If your child is lactose tolerant and can eat yogurt, this may prove useful to you, it was for me.

Yeast thrives in moist damp environments and in the summer months it is very hard to avoid the dreaded yeast infection for children in diapers. Naked time helps, fresh air can do wonders; just make sure you have a mop handy (lol). Most children enjoy being naked so I don't think you'll get much resistance for naked time. They will also feel a bit better by allowing the area to dry out.

My favorite trick for preventing yeast infections, and curing them faster was using baby smoothies. I would take some plain or vanilla flavored yogurt and put it in the blender with milk (my children are old enough for milk and are lactose tolerant) and I would whip it up and put it in a sippy cup. Sometimes I would even add some chocolate or strawberry flavoring (syrup). Try to stay away from fruit or yogurt with fruit in it; they tend to clog the valve on the sippy cup. I told the kids it was a milkshake and they loved it!

This trick has helped a lot. My kids drink it right up, and it is good for them so it is something I can feel good about giving them. They are getting extra calcium and vitamins while reaping the benefits of the live cultures without even knowing it. If your child has a serious rash please bring them to your pediatricians as a prescription may be necessary. Prevention or course is always better. But if your little one does have a yeast infection this may help them get over it faster. Or if your child is on antibiotics, this may help ward off a yeast infection.
