A Newborn Baby & Sixty Pounds Heavier

S.B.
I had visions of a healthy pregnancy. I thought I'd be one of those moms's who was skinny with just a nice baby belly. Before I knew it I was nine month's pregnant in the middle of August and totally swollen and sixty pounds heavier! I delivered a beautiful, eight pound healthy daughter and had a daunting amount to lose.

After giving birth, I decided to focus on my daughter and to my surprise the weight came off. I had made the decision to breastfeed exclusively and it sure helped me to lose the weight. I just decided to eat normally, breastfeed my daughter and drink plenty of fluids. I found that I was so busy caring for my newborn, that I had less time to snack and eat.

One of the other things that really helped me to lose weight was to get outside. I'd put my daughter in the stroller and just walk and walk around the blocks in our neighbor. Or I'd carry her around in the chest carrier as I cleaned the house. I had delivered via emergency cesarean section so I really couldn't do many types of exercise at first - so I just kept walking. Staying active with my daughter really helped me to drop the weight. By four months after my daughter birth, I found that I had lost all sixty pounds that I had gained. I felt wonderful.

My advice to any mom who is struggling with the weight the gained is to not focus on it. Try and eat normally, stay active through walking, drink tons of water and breastfeed if you can.
