Another point to our neighborhood: the location of schools in the area is in walking distance. So, there's no worrying about whether or not you have to bus your child to school, or whether their safety from having to travel too far is a case to worry too much. Now, I'm not saying that this neighborhood is 100% crime-free, but here, there's a slight better chance of having a worry-free experience when it comes to sending your child off to walk to get his or her education.
Just a few blocks eastward on Western Avenue, there is a park that offers everything for a playful child, including basketball courts, skateboarding and rollerblading. Just to include, of course this is still in the same area for the schools, so there is a great chance for your children to play with classmates after school.
Western Avenue is one of the many major streets in Chicagoland. It runs west and eastward, giving you ample access to all major parts of the city, and connection with other streets with ease. Chicago is one place that has congested streets and highways; there are no 'low-traffic' areas anywhere in Chicago! But I will state that the streets on our Westside area are not as congested as the streets near downtown or those closer to the inner city loops.
And another point to mention, the bus depot for Western Avenue, is located just across the street from the sky train METRA (MetroTrain). So, if you are a commuter for work, this allows you to transfer from the CTA (ChicagoTransit Authority) with ease. This saves much time and money when you're having to commute from an area far from the downtown area.
During the summer days, our western area in Chicagoland offers many events within the community. There are neighborhoods where Irish natives lives, and an area in our neighborhood where the Mexican natives enjoy and celebrate Cinco De Mayo (May 5th), a cultured event celebrated with varieties of Mexican cuisine, nightlife and parades.
If you wish to grab a bite to eat, get ready to have a long list of choices; there are plenty of Mexican restaurants, bars and grilles to choose from up and down Western Avenue.
As I've stated before, Western Avenue is a major street; housing many car dealerships, beauty shops, auto parts stores, grocery stores and markets. There are no major malls on the strip, but there are plenty boutiques for not only average gear, but authentic African, Mexican and Indian attire.
Before I end this, I would like to add that lately there have been an incline in the Asian natives moving into the area, adding even more culture in our quaint little area in the western part of Chicagoland. I would also like to add that the neighborhood my family lives in is mainly a quite neighborhood, consisting of elderly families who have been living in the area for more than 30 years; on our block we have more than six homes where elderly couples live. They keep our block full of tradition, which is definitely a plus when you have children to keep in mind.
