A Painted Pictrue

Annette
I painted the picture on canvas just the way he described it to me. It was full of happy kids smiling and holding hands but drawn in the most simple and child like way: triangles for bodies, circles for heads and straight lines for their arms and legs.

All the kids were smiling and wearing different colored triangle shaped bodies. There was the yellow sun in the sky and green grass at their feet.

But when I showed him the painting he became very upset and somewhat mean. He said "That's not how I wanted it!"

He took a sharp object and began scraping away at the canvas. As he forcefully scraped away, a new scene appeared.

It was of two men hunting in the woods accompanied by two big white hairy dogs. The dogs took off running deep into the trees where you could no longer see them and the two hunters followed.

As the scene unfolded on canvas I could hear people saying to me "Wow that looks so real." I myself was surprised that this was hidden under the simple painting and couldn't believe I had subconsciously created it.

As we marveled at the unfolding new painting he continued scraping until both images were destroyed beyond recognition.

I could hear people now saying "Aw, why did he have to do that?"

I felt disappointed seeing how he had destroyed my painting. Extremely hurt by his actions I wondered why he felt he had to do this.

This painting took me three days of very hard work and patience to create and now I would have to start over yet-again.

I looked to him but he showed no remorse. He had anger on his face, as if I had done something wrong. I just couldn't understand him but my hurt from his actions took away my concern for his motive.

And so I let him go...
