When I go to a Middle Eastern/Mediterranean restaurant, I want roast meat (shawarma), preferably lamb, plenty of olives, zesty hummus and/or Baba Ghannoush (roasted and then mashed is the only way I like eggplant). Old Jerasalem all my requirements.
The portions are large, and with the olives and pickled radishes (more filling than tortilla chips, I've found), I have always had to take food home and only seen but not tasted the desserts: baklawa, rarbat, and kunafa (the Arabian dish that is a specialty of the house; also romanized elsewhere as kanafeh).
Since the pitabread is always fresh, I assume falafaf sandwiches are good, too, but have never been there for lunch.
The waiters have been friendly, helpful, and kept my water glass filled. Much of the clientele seems to be Arab, which vouches for the authenticity of the food. Neither pork nor alcohol are served (of course).
The restaurant is open daily and is a block and a half south from BART (or the 48 MUNI line) on the frequently-running 14 Mission Muni line.

olives are one of my favorite fruits :) haven't been to SF in YEARS! (I think it was '94), and I'm sure it's changed a lot since then, great city and nice review too.
