A Parents Point of View of Christmas

Tashia M. Heath
Like most kids, when I was young I loved Christmas. I loved the feeling of anticipation on Christmas eve, laying in bed awake imagining the day to come. As I ripped through my presents I couldn't imagine a better feeling on Christmas. As a child I always thought that my parents got the short end of the stick around the holidays. They never received as many presents as my sister and I did and I was quite sure that they missed being a child as they watched us play with our new toys. It wasn't until this year that I realized that the holidays are much more exciting from a parents point of view.

This December 25th couldn't come fast enough, the anticipation is far more exciting now than it was for me 15 years ago. I can't wait to make a tradition of telling my son about the true story of Christmas. Putting the story in toddler terms that it's because of Jesus and his birthday that we celebrate Christmas on December 25th. I look forward to seeing his face light up at the sight of bright colored boxes under the tree that weren't there when he went to bed the night before. All of these things fill my heart with so much love and joy, I never knew how much better my parents had it on Christmas. I almost feel silly that I thought they missed out over the holiday season in years past, never before did I know that they were the ones who had the best view of Christmas morning. I look forward to a ridiculous mass of torn Backyardigan wrapping paper strewn across my living room floor and secretly sticking bows to the top of my sons head. I can't wait to see the pride in my husband's face as our son goes through his new gifts.

Everything about the holidays is more rewarding than has ever been before now that I'm a proud parent. I look forward to many long years of holiday memories with my family, with the best point of view of all, as JT's Mommy.

That's nice, I know what you mean. I enjoy Christmas more now that I have my son to share it with too.

Aww, how sweet. I also enjoy Christmas even more now that I have kids to share it with. Their precious little faces lighting up are the only gifts I need. :-)
