Stephen King is one of the most loved horror authors around, although from what I understand there are still a few critics that complain about his lengthy novels. Some books are literally two to three inches thick. King's Dark Tower series, if stacked on one another, would probably be nearly a foot or more high. Probably his most thick book was "Insomnia", approximately a whopping four inches.
Stephen King has a fan club that other authors could only dream about. Many of his fans are life long followers of his work. Others are barely out of elementary. Stephen King has morphed some of his "fan" experiences into book passages, which allows us to understand somewhat about how the fans can and do affect his life. His most famous book dealing with the situation of how fans can go overboard is "Misery" however, "Lisey's Story" is possibly more along the lines of what he faces everyday.
I have heard so many differing views on the man's literary talent. One of the most ridiculous that I ever heard was that he gets his talent from pure homicidal tendencies. While I'm sure he has some homicidal thoughts, (don't we all at times?) I have never heard of King running a pig farm in Canada or having a collection of eyeballs in jars. Possibly, Stephen King doesn't need to act on thoughts because his imagination is so complex, that he can live the entire incident just by closing his eyes. If that is the case, then thankfully he writes them down afterward so that we can all enjoy the beastly side of our nature.
Stephen King is married to a lovely woman named Tabitha, who is also an author. King's wife seems to hang out in her husband's shadow. Perhaps that is all anyone can do around the larger than life man, as his talent and personality is so bright. I admit, I have never read any of her books because it isn't my usual reading material, but I hear she is a good writer. Perhaps we do know her better than we think though, as King has written stories containing a writer's wife.
All in all, Stephen King is a wonderful author that scares some people with his talent and imagination. However, he also makes people love him with the same tools, and inspires others to write, like possibly his wife even. Stephen King literally opened a new way of writing horror stories when he began. Up to that point, the novels on the market were not as in-depth with the character creation and detail. This has created a multi-million dollar market for him and those that choose to follow in his footsteps.

Post a CommentLong ago read a King interview, the words forgotten. He explained his popularity, as taking things people are afraid of and turning them into novels as a way that people learn to deal with their fears. Something like that. I had almost every book he wrote and donated them to libraries as I moved about. My oldest daughter and youngest son now have the same books in their home libraries.
Thank you! :)
"...a wonderful author that scares some people with his talent and imagination." Agreed. The guy is amazing. Nice article.
