A Performance that Would Make the Beatles Smile

A Rendition of the Beatles Classic Tune by Michael Province & Nathan Chan

Michele Starkey

I admire young and talented musicians who take on the superstars and perform renditions of the classic songs. It can be daunting to measure up to the likes of the Beatles. Especially daunting when you are just a teenager and barely able to qualify for a driver's license because you were not even born when the Beatles released their song.

Enter two young musicians who play the violin and the cello and performed the classic Beatle's song, Let it Be. If you haven't yet heard the duo of Michael Province and Nathan Chan, you can listen to it here.

Let it Be was the final single McCartney recorded with the Beatles before leaving to form his own band. It remains one of the all-time favorite Beatles tunes among fans and maintains the Number 3 position of the top Beatles' songs of all time.

To listen to Paul belt out the original tune, you can listen here.

Let it Be remains of my favorites, too. It conjures up visions that the unknown answers we are seeking will become apparent over time not necessarily overnight if we can just be still and let it be. Those "whispered words of wisdom" to let it be come to us in the silent moments.

Many people assume that McCartney is referencing the Mother Mary when in fact he is referring to his own mother, Mary, who died when Paul was just 14 years of age. She lost her life to breast cancer and McCartney wrote the tune after a dream that his mother had returned to comfort him.

In 1998, he would again lose someone he loved to breast cancer. His wife of 30 years, Linda, would succumb to the dreadful disease.

Paul chose the song, Let it Be, to be played at her funeral.
