A Personal Trainer's Review of P90X

Jason Cooley
The P90X workout system is the hot new talk of the town. Many products and programs have had their 15 minutes in the spotlight with their names on the minds of those looking to lose weight. Most of the time when a product, weight loss program, or weight loss system establishes such renown, it's because of outrageous claims like, "Lose 10lbs in 10 days," or "Eat more and exercise less to lose weight," but P90X has achieved its claim to fame with a program that will flat out kick your butt.

Does it work?

I know people feel like they have to ask this because the P90X workout system is an infomercial product. It depends what your definition of "works" is. Are you really asking, "Does hardcore daily exercise work?" For those of you waiting on the edge of your seat for an answer, it's "Yes, it works." If you are asking if it will work for you the answer is, "Only if you work for it." Let me explain.

The reality of P90X

The opportunity to exercise is all around us, but yet we decide to click whatever's trending on Yahoo. The P90X is simply no more than a mapped out exercise plan. You have to ask yourself." Do I really think that having a checklist of what to do when working out will make me actually do it?"

Yes, structure is nice and when you are doing something you feel unsure about, it's good to have guidance. Simply purchasing the P90X is not enough though. You have to commit to doing the work that goes along with it. Your first few workouts will kick your butt and make you feel accomplished for gutting it out, but it doesn't end there. You will need to continue this program the next day. That means everyday you have to dread doing a workout. The P90X will become the worst part of your day, and will be something that makes life less enjoyable. Dread is never good. Once you have had enough of that grueling weight loss system you will one day find yourself looking at the DVD from across the room, flip it the bird, turn you back, walk away and drive to McDonalds.

If you can CONTINUE to use the P90X it will work, but ultimately it is too brutal to be practical. I suggest my ultra practical 4 minute workout.
