A Physicist Provides "Evidence" for God's Existence

Or it Plainly Blind Faith?

Andrew Berry
Physicist and professor Dr. Frank Tipler says he has hard facts proving that God, without a doubt, exists. Is it truly a break-through in the scientific field, or is it plain ignorance and blind faith?

Dr. Tipler starts by saying that he has been a devout Christian since the age of 12 years old, when he initially found "God". His faith died down over a duration of time somewhat. But then Dr. Tipler 'found' God again, but this time it was through formulas, physics, and hard science. In his scientific proof, Tipler uses the famous Einstein's work, such as his Principles of General Relativity. Mostly known as the "General Theory of Relativity", this theory provides backbone for such things as gravitational pull and physical acceleration.

Dr. Tipler, on a video interview recorded by CBS11, explains some of his findings by saying:

"What you can show using physics, forces this universe to continue to exist. As long as you're using general relativity and quantum mechanics you are forced to conclude that God exists." (Dr. Tipler to CBS11)

But as I stated before, this can easily be a case of religious ignorance, as we have seen multiple times in the past. Can God be proved through the scientific method? A lot of people are skeptical, and as you can see, the backbone of Dr. Tipler's argument is very weak. The universe was most likely created scientifically from the Big Bang Theory. Christians and Catholics alike tend to view the beginning of the universe as God creating anything and everything, but this leaves open loopholes in their beliefs. Of course, faith is right there to patch up any loophole. If you doubt a loophole in Catholicism or Christianity, you can be sure to be told by any devout Catholic or Christian that one must simply have faith.

There are major skeptics fighting against this "evidence" of God. Dr. Tim Gorski, a renound atheist, explains to CBS11 his beliefs on what Dr. Tipler truly believes he has found:

"The main question really is, can science study the super natural? To the extent that science can study the super natural, then the super natural becomes natural." (Dr. Tim Gorski to CBS11.)

However, CBS11 tells us that is what Tipler is trying to tell us, but to show that he does exist, rather than not. Like I said before, people must have faith, according to the church, in order to believe that God is real.

Bishop Eddie Long doesn't agree with Tipler, and says that God must be found through faith, not mathematical equations of any sort.

Can God truly be found through science? Or is religion just defending itself from scrutiny by saying that there is no scientific way for God to be found. Is God even real? Maybe there are answers we, as humans, are not really supposed to figure out. Also, the meaning of the word "God" can be taken into different contexts when jumping from religion to religion. As a personal agnostic, I have to say that there is some power out there. Maybe it's fate. But I do not believe in a creator-of-all God who is infinitely perfect and cannot be wrong in any way. But hey, there's always faith, right?

    this is what intresting is.

    type of religions:

    1. agnostics- believe God doesn't care about us .
    2. Deism - believe God created the unverse. believe i don't need prove to believe theres a God.
    3. Atheist - don't believe in God.
    4. Buddah - believe in buddah .
    5. hindu - uncertainty.

None of us can prove or disprove in God. I believe it is something you have to search your hear about. In my case, I have little doubt in a supreme creator or being based on years of looking at both sides. One thing that atheists should not do, tho, is to NOT believe in God because of the past sins of christians, muslims, jews, etc., and their churches. There is no doubt that organized and fundamental radical religions have made anyone who believes in God and especially in this country Christians, look bad. People should be judged on their actions not pompus statements.

I don't think he proved the existence of God, nor can anyone disprove his existence. If you want to have 'faith' in God then do so, if not then don't. It's a matter of personal choice.

First I would just like to express some awkward feelings at "Catholics" and "Christians" being placed into two separate groups. I believe to be accurate on all accounts, all previous commentors meant to say "Cahtolics and Protestants," since Catholics are, in fact, the original Christians.
With that bit of theological history out of the way, I feel that there are some interesting points raised in all of this. That's really all we can do, is feel, because all of this really is circumstantial, as Heather said, and based almost completely on personal opinion and preference. We will never have a world where everyone will look at the same data and reach the same conclusions; why should this be any different. Personally, I do believe in a God because there are so many things that science cannot explain at this point. That is not to say that they will not be explained later, but when that happens, there is no doubt in my mind that there will be other unexplicable issues to take into con

I don't think God can be proven or disproven, not at the present and maybe not ever in the future. I believe God exists; I have faith; I feel him. But I can't prove to anyone that God does or does not exist. All the evidence in both cases is circumstantial, not hard proof. This was a very interesting piece.

My stance is that God can not be disproved in any way, at least that's what Catholics and Christians say. The Bible may be historically accurate in certain aspects, but not all, or most. Albert Einstein may have been religious, but science discovers more answers than religion does in today's day and age. I am agnostic, I do not believe in the "cookie cutter" God. Faith fills all of the plotholes associated with God, and I think that's a cheap shot. This is also a news article with SOME personal insight. Most of it is accuracte information from the core source. I think some people get so offended because they are seriously afraid about being disproved about their beliefs.

Whether your brain ticks best on faith or fact is innate. It doesn't, by itself, make you a good or bad person. The goal is to find out, and use, whatever motivates and inspires you. This is how we leave a positive legacy after we die.

I'm Agnostic. Plain and simple. Reason being is not of the argument of "Does Yahweh Exist?", but rather what Catholicism did and what it ultimately stood for and what it still does. Perhaps I'll write an article explaining it more. Very good article though, Thanks for the read:D.
