A+ Places to Sing Karaoke in the Fairfield Area

Adina Pernell
If you're a confirmed karaoke fiend like me, you probably already have hit up YouTube, RedKaraoke, The Karaoke Channel, or Myspace Karaoke to practice your budding or maybe even highly polished vocal ability. This is either an all-consuming obsession, or you are an American Idol hopeful, if only in your dreams. For every self-described karaoke addict, there are times when you absolutely need a stage to shine on, no matter if it is in the middle of a crowd of rowdy weekenders who smell like stale nuts and beer. So you're ready to take the stage, but don't know where to demonstrate your latest rendition of Lady GaGa, Rihanna, or Justin Bieber? Have no fear! Here's a list of some of the better karaoke spots near Fairfield, CA.

1. Str8 Shooter
The number one spot goes to a little out of the way spot in Vacaville, CA known as Str8 Shooter, a pool bar that on Fridays and Saturdays is a great spot to sing. The alcohol is cheap and the drinks are strong. It's a real bar, where if you come long enough, 'everybody knows your name.' The people that hang out there are friendly and tipsy without getting crazy. There's a huge library of songs to pick from and the DJ's Andre and Vince who have great voices, will always back you up on duets or songs that require background singers. A nice number of pool tables let you test your ability with a cue stick, and there is even a enclosed patio inside that doubles as a smoking room. If you're not in the mood to perform and just want to watch, pull up a stool at the large circular bar and a friendly server or even the owner if he's in, will pour you a drink. Order a tasty appetizer if you need to dumb down a potential hangover. The food there is decent, reasonably priced, and tasty. Every so often in between karaoke sets the DJ will spin popular top 40 tunes on a great sound system and everyone will dance. Come here for a true neighborhood watering hole experience and you definitely won't be disappointed.

2. A & J's Pub And Grill
Right in the heart of downtown Suisun City, CA there's a little hole in the wall bar that is often packed from wall to wall. The large selection of songs to pick from , and the fully stocked bar are wonderful additions to the lively and friendly atmosphere. It often seems all the locals hang out here on Fridays to try their hand at rapping a Dr. Dre hit, or belting out "Love Is A Battlefield". There are only two pool tables so you'll have to wait your turn to play a round. While you're doing that snag a drink and put up a song to sing. You won't be embarrassed even if you murder it. The crowd here is all about the fun and the dare. After a few songs are sung, there is a musical break with the current hip hop or dance hit on the charts to mix things up before it's back to singing again. The DJ Doug makes sure that the mood is high all night, and keeps things really fair with the order of songs a person can sing. Everyone has to wait their turn, even regulars. And if you're just walking in, chances are you will get to sing at least once during the evening. As a karaoke buff, what more can you ask for the chance to ruin your favorite tune and a place to drown your weekly worries in your drink of choice?

3. Uncle Bong's Pizza
Just a short walk down from A & J's, there's a cool little pizza joint called Uncle Bong's. It's a family friendly spot that's literally a stone's thrown from the Amtrak Train Station. The staff is welcoming, there's plenty of spacious tables to gather around and they serve beer at the tap. Hang out there on Friday's and Saturday's for their weekend karaoke. They have a pretty nice selection of songs, and you don't have to deal with the rowdiness of a bar scene. The DJ is friendly, albeit the sound system isn't as polished as some of the other karaoke places in town. Don't let that discourage you though, what Uncle Bong's doesn't have in audio sleekness it makes up for with the wonderful pizzas they serve. Bring your kids and have a good old time after an afternoon movie. This spot is great for birthday's, special treats, and other celebrations or to watch the game on their huge flat screen TV. Make it a point to stop by and check it out one weekend. You'll be glad you did.
