A Poem, Abernathy Town

A Poem About the West Texas Panhandle Town of Abernathy

ABERNATHY TOWN

The sun is hot and shining down.
upon the hard baked land
A land apart and alien,
To an ordinary man.
The wind blows strong,
Dust storms swirl, Mother Nature round
And then, you suddenly come upon,
a land of mesa mounds.

The trees in barren splendor stand,
bending in the breeze
And man alone looks up to see,
a land he must appease.
A town is built out yonder,
Abernathy is its name.
A town of warm and friendly folks,
although it knows no fame.

They irrigate, plow and plant
to make the soil grow
The things they need to survive,
on a land that is their foe.
From Lubbock town it isn't far,
to where you'll see the sign
Pointing the way to Abernathy town,
that leaves the world behind.

The struggle to survive goes on,
all over our big earth
And this little town is only one,
to work to earn its worth.
But somehow in that far off town,
you really start to find
What life is all about, my friend,
and how to spend your time.

Magaly I could not agree more, but then again others seem to understand it, so maybe we are the ones out of step. hahahah!. Ye Artme, Time is gone once it is over. What a shame that it is only there to remember. You just caused me to write a new poem I just posted. hahaha!

Sorry I could not find the lyrics even with the website Magaly, but I do like his music. I was born in NY but am a Texan at heart after being her some 40 years, so love country music but then I like ALL music, except rapp and heavy metal. I even listen to bad pipes and am learning to play a penny whistle. hahah!
