A Poem that Doesn't Rhyme

Bubba
My baby daughter (now 32) was going through some difficult and challenging times. Throughout her life I have tried to express her need for some music to lift her spirits. Many times I would sing to her or she would sing to me that old camp song "Do Your Ears Hang Low." I finally wrote and sent her the "Poem that doesn't Rhyme" and she requested I publish it. This one is for you Half Pint.

The Poem That Doesn't Rhyme

Daddy's little girl was born and the angels sang her praise.

Daddy watched her grow and her ears hang low

She towed her big brother on a skateboard

Daddy watched her grow and her ears hang low

She lead the softball team to victory

Daddy watched her grow and her ears hang low

She lead the school in a cheer

Daddy watched her grow and her ears hang low

She earned a Nurse cap and the angels wings did flap

Daddy watched her grow and her ears hang low.

Three babies this little girl did bring and the angels did sing

Daddy watched her grow and her ears hang low

Today her heart is broken and the judge has spoken

Daddy watched her grow and her ears hang low

Today her eyeballs droop and float in her soup

Daddy watched her grow and her ears hang low

Tomorrow she will stand tall and teach three babies to live, laugh, and love

Daddy watched her grow and her ears hang low.

Nice. It is hard to explain the heartbreak a parent feels when they see their babies go through tough times but your poem seems to express it just fine.

I don't get it: the judge has spoken- divorce? In any event, I hope things get better for her.

Good one. So sweet. I can sympathize with you, as my daughter has been through the same thing and then lately has been on chemo and has been so, so miserable. I just want to hold her and rock away all her pain, but it's just not possible. I know your daughter will enjoy your poem.

I really like this. No daughter ever gets too old for comfort and encouragement from a parent. No matter how old they get, they're still our children and we want them to be safe and happy.

This is a beautiful poem/song -- your daughter is lucky to have your support in tough times, and you're both in my prayers.
