A Poem About Dying

No-One

Doug Clore
There's a burning inside of me
That sears like dry ice.
I pray death's peace
will find me also,
And crying out to no-one,
I shout my need to join my love,
In the emptiness around me.
I do not seem surprised at all,
When no-one deigns to answer.

It's been so long,
I'm still alone.
I wait for no-one's visit.
We get along
Like old friends now;
My time draws ever-near.
And when I soon face death's sweet rest,
I'm sure no-one will join me.
